CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER

The following position is currently available at Xxx Nigeria.

 

OBJECTIVE:
To be responsible for the full reporting and accounting function of a life assurance company in Lagos, Nigeria. The candidate will report directly to the CEO of Xxx Nigeria.

 

MAIN FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION:

· To manage the accounting department

· Monthly reporting on actual and budgeted performance for local and group management.

· Submission of life insurance returns (or local statutory equivalent) and payment of statutory levies.

· To compile annual financial statements and liaise with external auditors.

· Annual budgeting

· Establishment and maintenance of sound accounting practices, procedures and controls.

· To report on investment assets.

· The cash management function, which will include investment cash flows to asset managers.

· Interaction with external asset managers to comply with group and statutory reporting requirements.

· Calculation and submission of local taxation returns, including VAT, income tax and withholding tax.

· Responsibility for maintaining the Accpac accounting package (chart of accounts, updates etc), which must be in synch with other group international operations.

· Intercompany loan reconciliations.

· Provide IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standard) information for group reporting and reconcile to local Nigerian accounting reporting standards.

· Reporting on financial performance to the board of Xxx Nigeria.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

· CA (SA);

· At least 3 years experience in financial services, preferably life insurance will be advantageous;

· Self-starter who works independently with limited supervision;

· A person who can prioritise work under pressure and be able to meet set deadlines;

· Effective and strong communication skills (verbal and written);

· Excellent interpersonal skills;

· Self-motivated, innovative and results driven;

· Ability to work accurately under extreme pressure to strict deadlines.

· Be flexible to changing demands and conditions

 

The candidate will initially spend time in Cape Town at Parc du Cap, thereafter the role will commence in Lagos, Nigeria on 1 July 2009. The successful applicant must be willing to commit him/ herself to a minimum period of 3 years, effective as from July 2009.

 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
All candidates must be prepared to relocate in line with the business requirements and responsibilities of the position.
Candidates must have a passport with no restrictions; the offer will be conditional on obtaining a resident work permit and regulatory approval for the candidate.

Remuneration and employment conditions are competitive and in line with current industry practices. Package and benefits will include relocation costs and other related costs.

Negotiable on the CA qualification: will look at BComm Hons PLUS loads of experience as well.

The incumbent will be based in CPT for the first 6 months and thereafter 3 yr contract in Nigeria
